Clinic History
SierraDental was officially registered as a business in Sierra Leone on the 4th of March 2022 by Dr. Ahmed Al-Hassan Sheriff, a passionate and visionary dentist, inspired by a childhood fear of dentists and his community's pressing need for dental services. Dr. Sheriff wanted to create a friendly dental environment that patients can look forward to coming to. From humble beginnings, the clinic began as a small, home-based practice in his two-room apartment. Despite limited resources and challenges, he persevered, leveraging his skills and determination to provide quality dental care to his local community.
On the 11th July, 2023, SierraDental won the pitch prize at the Venture School Pitch Competition organized by the Institute of International Business at the University of Iowa in the United States, where Dr. Sheriff emerged in first place after competing with 24 other entrepreneurs from 22 countries across Africa. This support enabled the clinic to secure its own location, expand its operations and transformed from the makeshift clinic into a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Freetown.
The business went on to win two more pitch competitions in Sierra Leone and the UK in August and October 2024 respectively. Throughout its journey, SierraDental has been supported by various organizations and individuals and now stands as a symbol of hope and progress, committed to providing accessible, affordable, and high-quality dental services across Africa, starting in Sierra Leone.
